Woman explains why you should never eat food products from packet that’s not flat

When it comes to food, many of us use the best before dates, or our sense of smell, to work out if an item is ok to eat.

But according to a TikTok user, there’s one other thing you should be checking before cooking – and that’s the product’s packaging.

Maneet Kaur, who posts on @minsmeals on the social media platform, has gone viral after sharing an important tip for her fellow foodies.

She explains in a video that if you’re buying fresh food products, such as sausages, you should always check the film on top before eating – even if they are still in date.

In the clip, Maneet shows two packets of sausages as she says: “If you’re buying food products and they’re sealed with the film on top, always make sure that they are flat and I’ll tell you why.

“Both of these products are both in date, but this one pack has blown and that basically means that the film is spongy to touch, compared to the other one.

“That means there is bacteria inside this pack of food now, even though the packaging says it is in date, it is not safe to eat.

“I recommend that if you ever have food that has packaging like this, do not eat it.”

She adds: “The film should be flat. See how flat that is.

“No, you need to bin it straight away.”

The video has been watched more than 68,000 times and garnered thousands of likes and hundreds of comments.

One person replied: “If they are in date you can return them back, they have to honour it because they are in date, plus trade descriptions act covers it.”

Another said: “I always throw away blown packs in date or not.”

A third wrote: “Awesome advice! Literally you are amazing. Keep up the good content!”

“Good to know,” added someone else. “I often wonder why some packets are like that in the clearance shelves.”
